  1. Traveller's Rest Equine Elders Sanctuary An "older" article on wintering an older horse, from thehorse.com. On of our worries during the "Blizzard of '09" was lack of exercise as the horses chose to stay in the sheds for several days straight. Keeping those feet moving keeps everything else moving too - gut function, circulation, respiratory function - ever...ything!

    The first two days post-snow, eveyone entured out, but spent most of the time dozing, trying to catch up on Z's. Now they are out and about, and all seems well.

    Excerpt from the article: "Do not keep your horse confined to a stall unless recommended by your veterinarian for medical purposes. Ideally there should be free access to turnout, with good shelter from the elements available. The more the horse has an opportunity to exercise, the better."See More
